Transforming Lives Through Water: Pilot Water Project at Kofi Agyei Senior High/Technical School, Bampenase-Ashanti Region, Ghana

The International Development and Community Organization (IDECO), in partnership with Protectol Water Initiative (PWI), implemented a Pilot Water Project at Kofi Agyei Senior High/Technical School in Bampenase, addressing limited access to clean water that affected health, hygiene, and academic performance, particularly for girls.

A stakeholder consultative meeting on 7th May 2025 engaged the Municipal Education Office, Ghana Health Service, school management, PTA, Assembly member, student leaders, and project partners to ensure community involvement and transparency.

The project formally launched on 9th May 2025 with a sod-cutting ceremony, marking the start of construction, which included drilling a borehole, installing a mechanized pump, overhead tank, and accessible tap points.

WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) as well as Protectol’s ORS education and menstrual hygiene management workshops were integrated, promoting healthier practices among students and staff.

On 21st June 2025, the water system was inaugurated and handed over to the school and its newly formed Water Management Committee. Over 3,000 students and teachers now enjoy safe daily water access, improving attendance, reducing illness, and enhancing dignity, especially for girls.

IDECO call on partners, donors, and stakeholders to support the scaling of similar projects across Ghana, ensuring that every child has access to safe water, proper hygiene, and the opportunity to thrive academically.
