IDECO was founded in 2019 out of a shared conviction that poverty, inequality, and limited access to opportunity can be overcome when communities are empowered with the right tools, knowledge, and support. The organization was established by a group of four dedicated humanitarians led by a woman whose collective experiences revealed the urgent need for locally driven, sustainable development solutions that place people at the center of change.

The founders bring extensive backgrounds in humanitarian and development work, including service with the United Nations and other international organizations. Through years of field experience in fragile and underserved contexts, they witnessed firsthand how gaps in education, livelihoods, and basic social services perpetuate poverty and vulnerability. These experiences shaped IDECO’s mission: to strengthen communities by investing in education, capacity building, social inclusion, and long-term resilience, particularly for women, children, and youth.

IDECO’s work focuses on breaking cycles of poverty through education, skills development, health promotion and nutrition, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), access to clean and safe water, energy access, environmental protection, peace and security, gender equality, and decent work and economic growth. By working closely with local leaders, authorities, and development partners, the organization supports communities to take ownership of initiatives, strengthen local leadership, and sustain progress beyond project timelines.

IDECO’s approach is rooted in dignity, participation, and practical impact, ensuring that communities are not passive recipients of aid but active drivers of their own development and long-term resilience.

Following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, IDECO re-emerged in 2023 with renewed determination and stronger systems, guided by lessons in resilience and adaptability. Today, IDECO continues to translate humanitarian experience into meaningful action on the ground, addressing root causes of poverty and exclusion while inspiring hope and opportunity.
