Kwaku Zakaria Yussif – Water and Sanitation Engineer (WATSAN)
Born in Kpatani, Northern Ghana, Yussif has dedicated his career to solving one of the most pressing challenges in rural communities access to clean and safe water. After completing his basic education at Kpatani D/A Primary and Wenchiki D/A Junior High School, he attended Zabzugu Senior High School and later earned a Diploma in Accounting and Business from Tamale Technical University.
With over 12 years of hands-on experience in water infrastructure, Yussif has led the successful drilling and installation of over 26 boreholes, bringing clean and safe water to more than 50,000 people across the Northern and Ashanti regions of Ghana. He has supervised construction of small-town water systems, rehabilitated 10 non-functional boreholes, and implemented sanitation campaigns benefiting over 20 rural schools.
As IDECO’s Water and Sanitation Engineer, Yussif plays a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining WASH projects, ensuring sustainability through community training and local ownership models. His work has significantly reduced waterborne diseases by up to 40% in targeted communities, improved school attendance especially among girls and boosted economic opportunities for rural households.
