IDECO in collaboration with the Ghana water company limited (GWCL) Ghana Health, Service (GHS) Joins the Aboaso Muslim Community for a Needs Assessment on Access to Clean Water in Aboaso Municipality - Kumasi.

Women, the elderly, community leaders, local authorities and Youths gathered in large numbers at the community center to voice their urgent need for clean and reliable water access in the Aboaso Muslim community. The assessment highlighted the daily struggles faced, particularly by women and girls, who walk long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources, exposing them to health risks and physical exhaustion. The lack of clean water has not only impacted household sanitation and hygiene but has also disrupted education for young girls, who often miss school to help their families collect water.

Waterborne Diseases and Health Risks:

The community is experiencing a high prevalence of waterborne diseases, such as cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever, due to the consumption of contaminated water. These illnesses, which are easily preventable with access to clean water, continue to affect children and adults alike, leading to frequent sickness, malnutrition, and even death in severe cases. Additionally, the lack of proper sanitation facilities worsens the situation, as waste and polluted water sources mix, creating an environment where diseases thrive. The community faces a vicious cycle of poor health, economic loss, and diminished productivity, especially among women and children, who are most vulnerable.

Impact and Expected Outcomes:

If the project is implemented, it will bring transformative change to the community by ensuring clean, safe water for daily use. Waterborne diseases will be drastically reduced, leading to improved public health and fewer hospital visits. Women and girls will no longer have to risk their lives to fetch water, allowing them to engage in education and economic activities. Access to clean water will also improve sanitation, reducing the spread of illness and creating a healthier environment for the entire community.

A Call for Support:
To make this project a reality, we call on donors, organizations, and well-wishers to support this initiative. Your contribution will help provide clean water infrastructure, significantly reducing waterborne diseases and improving the overall health and well-being of the people in Aboaso. Together, we can eliminate these preventable illnesses and ensure a brighter, healthier future for the community. Join us in making clean water accessible to all!
