Empowering Future Generations: IDECO’s Climate Change Initiative for Kids in Apagya, Ghana

The International Development and Community Organization (IDECO) is committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its climate change initiative in Apagya, Ghana. This groundbreaking program, launched in partnership with the Christ-Centered English Assembly Church, aims to raise awareness and foster environmental responsibility among young people. The initiative was introduced during the Children’s Ministry Day celebration under the theme, “Caring for Our Planet: Understanding Climate Change and How Kids Can Help.”

IDECO’s initiative directly supports several SDGs 13, 4, 6, 11, & 17 and sought to teach children about the causes, effects, and potential solutions to climate change in an engaging and accessible way. Through drama performances, poetry recitations, music, and hands-on workshops, participants learned practical ways to combat climate change, including tree planting, waste reduction, and water conservation.

IDECO also distributed educational materials—books, pens, and rulers—inscribed with inspiring messages such as “Be the Change” to encourage lasting environmental habits. By making climate education interactive and enjoyable, children were not only informed but also motivated to take action within their families and communities.

The program’s impact extends beyond the children, fostering a ripple effect within the community. As young ambassadors for climate action, these children share their knowledge and inspire behavioral change among parents, peers, and local leaders. By collaborating with religious and community groups, IDECO strengthens grassroots advocacy for sustainable practices, ensuring long-term environmental stewardship.

IDECO is actively seeking the support of donors, organizations, and individuals to sustain and expand this impactful program. Your generous contributions will enable IDECO to Reach more children and communities with climate education; Provide additional learning resources and materials; Organize more hands-on environmental activities, including tree-planting campaigns and clean-up drives; Build a network of young climate champions advocating for sustainability.

Together, we can inspire the next generation to become stewards of our planet, making a tangible difference in the fight against climate change. By investing in youth education and environmental advocacy, we contribute to a sustainable future for all.

Join IDECO in empowering young minds and creating a lasting impact. Let’s take action today for a better tomorrow.
