Breaking Myths, Restoring Confidence: IDECO’s Menstrual Health Initiative at Tahweed Senior High School, Kumasi, Ghana.

At IDECO, we believe that empowering young women begins with addressing fundamental challenges and breaking harmful stigmas. In line with this commitment, we donated sanitary pads to the students of Tahweed Senior High School in Kumasi, ensuring that menstruation does not stand in the way of their education, confidence, and well-being.

Menstruation, a natural and essential part of life, remains a source of stigma and hardship for many young women. Without access to proper menstrual hygiene products, countless girls are forced to miss school, compromising their education and future opportunities. This initiative is not merely about providing sanitary pads—it is about restoring confidence, ensuring uninterrupted education, and reinforcing the belief that no girl should be held back due to a lack of resources.

By ensuring consistent access to menstrual hygiene products, IDECO is reducing absenteeism, improving academic performance, and promoting gender equality. Through this initiative, we aim to create an environment where young women feel supported, valued, and empowered to pursue their dreams without shame or interruption.

A powerful highlight of the event was a drama performance by the students, creatively debunking myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation. The play shed light on societal stigma, misinformation, and the challenges young girls face. Through storytelling, humor, and real-life scenarios, the performance sparked meaningful conversations and encouraged students to embrace menstrual health as a normal and natural part of life.

IDECO’s menstrual health initiative goes beyond providing sanitary pads. We are committed to education and awareness, ensuring that students understand proper menstrual hygiene practices and feel confident in managing their periods. By addressing these issues at the grassroots level, we help improve overall health, self-esteem, and school retention rates, paving the way for a brighter future. This initiative directly contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (4,5,3,17)

However, there is still much work to be done. We call on donors, organizations, and individuals to support this mission. Together, we can break the stigma, ensure no girl misses school due to menstruation, and create a society where every young woman has the resources and confidence to reach her full potential.

Join IDECO in making a lasting impact because every girl deserves to succeed.
